Unity Path Defeat Chimaeron Heroic!

Posted on | February 11, 2011 | No Comments

For the DPS, it was two days of munching popcorn whilst the tanks and the healers got used to the increased requirements of the heroic version. There’s no great shakes, it’s all just turned up to eleven. We used the (in hindsight) wrong tactic for a night and a half, which wasn’t helpful – but we soon nailed it after we got on the right track to mitigate the tank debuffs.

Not has hard as the original version of Halfus heroic in all honestly, but a good challenge when the drops haven’t been kind and the raid is still basically under-geared.

Unity Path Defeat Halfus Wyrmbreaker Heroic!

Tuned very steeply for the 10 man format, Halfus Heroic took some time to get the tactics right – once there, it took a little too much time to nail the final kill – but which was certainly very rewarding.

Whilst we know that Blizzard are having difficulties balancing the 10-man version of the game, the overwhelming feeling is that it’s a little over-tuned at present unless you bring exactly the optimal raid composition for a fight – which of course simply isn’t possible in this format. However, this is just something to be overcome.

Update 9/02/11: This fight got hit with the nerfbat – the second kill was stupidly easy (and a one-shot) compared to the first kill. Bearing in mind the above, the nerfbat came down a little too hard.

Unity Path Defeat Nefarian!

We didn’t see much point in posting about taking down the nickel-and-dime bosses, but with the completion of all the normal fights, the front page can once again be refreshed to herald our assault on the Heroic versions of the fights.

For those who don’t know, we’ve elected to go for the 10 man version of raiding in this expansion. The big-logistics gambit we’ve all done now for too long, and we’re looking for perhaps a little less hassle, but the same progression as previous. After a bit of a messy start, we’re starting to feel like a unit again.

All of the normal fights were well tuned for the gear-curve, and by the looks of it the Heroic versions look to be monsters – which leaves a different taste to the meagre quantity of raiding which the first six months of Wrath of the Lich King gave.

Game Over? Not Likely. Time For Cataclysm!

To say that everyone was exhausted after the Lich King 25 Heroic kill would be an understatement. To land the fight before the 4.0 patch, when it was still at the proper difficulty level, was a monumental effort. We should have gotten there faster – much faster – but when people think they are indespensible then they tend to act with a certain arrogance, an arrogance which – unfortunately – had to be dealt with. However, people manned-up, the fight was done, the team stood proud.

And then we collapsed into a heap.

However, we’re now back in harness. We’re mere hours away from the next expansion, and what we can say is that we’ll be there – carving our way through the content. Exactly how remains to be seen. PvP is back on the agenda with the rated battlegrounds, and the end result to the changes to the PvE mechanics have yet to be seen. But, what ever we do and however we do it, it will be in our usual fashion: “by any and all means necessary.”

Unity Path Defeat The Lich King Heroic! (Realm First)

Posted on | October 6, 2010 | No Comments

After four months, with a three-week diversion to kill Halion 25 Heroic, the Lich King 25 Heroic finally toppled. And we thought M’uru was a long campaign – this was harder. It was a harder fight, but it was harder on the raid group – and some people lost their nerve. But the true backbone got there in the end, despite the setbacks, and can rightfully say “Game Over”.

Congratulations to the loot winners: Toban with [item]Bloodsurge, Kel’Thuzad’s Blade of Agony[/item], Kwis with [item]Fal’inrush, Defender of Quel’thalas[/item] and finally Chalace who bagged [item]Invincible’s Reins[/item].

It took a little over three weeks, and a complete reworking of our approach to the fight when we discovered we were going to come up short on the eight-minute enrage. But after an evening when it always looked likely, Halion finally surrendered and the Ruby Sanctum was cleared.

Congratulations to the loot winners: Toban with [item]Charred Twilight Scale[/item], Illiath with [item]Apocalypse’s Advance[/item], and Kayel with [item]Cloak of Burning Dusk[/item].

Ruby Sanctum is a pretty instance, but the normal version of the fight isn’t all that an a bag of chips. Basically, run away with a bombs, don’t stand in fire, and avoid some beams of death.

However, congratulations to the loot winners: Lavode with [item]Umbrage Armbands[/item], Codilia with [item]Phaseshifter’s Bracers[/item] and Toban with [item]Charred Twilight Scale[/item].

Unity Path Defeat Putricide Heroic! (Faction First)

Ugh. Putricide Heroic is now completed, which is the positive, but we made a real hash of this particular fight – using a strategy which was fundamentally flawed, but which looked initially promising. This took us down the wrong path for two weeks, and there was minimal euphoria on the kill – a two shot with a completely revised tactic – more a cold realisation that we were two weeks late and hadn’t done a good job.

However, congratulations to the loot winners: Naradien with [item]Protector’s Mark of Sanctification[/item], and Irisiri with [item]Astrylian’s Sutured Cinch[/item].

Unity Path Defeat Sindragosa Heroic (Realm First)

Posted on | April 24, 2010 | No Comments

We had feared becoming mired on Sindragosa after a couple of bad nights going nowhere fast, but after a revision of the ice block strategy and a general boot up the backside, the fight fell into place quite quickly. For the healers, it’s a bit of a nightmare, for everyone else there’s not a lot of difference other than bigger numbers are required.

Congratulations to the loot winners: Norinia with [item]Protector’s Mark of Sanctification[/item] and Rhoanna with [item]Phylactery of the Nameless Lich[/item].

Unity Path Defeat Deathwhisper Heroic! (Faction First)

Posted on | April 2, 2010 | No Comments

This took a bit longer than it should have, largely due to using a questionable tactic which just didn’t offer enough stability in P3 and Earthen Ring deciding to take a vacation on two of our raiding nights during the previous weeks raiding.

It’s certainly the most challenging fight of the opening 11 bosses in the Heroic instance – only the big three of Putricide, Sindragosa and The Lich King offer more challenge.

Congratulations to the loot winners: Illiath with [item]Blood-Soaked Saronite Stompers[/item], Kayel with [item]Ring of Maddening Whispers[/item] and Sehana with [item]The Lady’s Brittle Bracers[/item].
