Unity Path Defeat The Crimson Hall! (Realm First)

Posted on | January 28, 2010 | No Comments

Whilst it has to be said we made a complete mess of the fight the previous instance reset, the highlight being wiping at 2% in a night filled with new and wonderful ways of self-destructing on the way down, the return bout this week yielded a kill within four pulls. An excellently tuned fight, completely centric on damage this will be a block to many.

Congratulations to the loot winners: Sehana with [item]Blood Queen’s Crimson Choker[/item], together with Giggles and Woltarius who both bagged a [item]Vanquisher’s Mark of Sanctification[/item].

Unity Path Defeat The Plagueworks! (Realm First)

None of us thought that Blizzard would put such a finely tuned boss in the normal version of the instance. The limited attempt mechanic, coupled with next to no information about the boss created a buzz around the fight which hasn’t been seen for a while.

Festergut gave us no problems at all, Rotface a tricky hour or so in the opening gambit to the Plagueworks. Our first week adventures against Professor Putricide however saw us into Phase 3, but not in great shape and certainly nowhere near a kill. Coming up with a completely different strategy for this week, testing it in the 10 mans and then executing it in the 25-man saw us bring home the bacon with 5 attempts to spare, including the obligatory 1% wipe and 2 minutes left on the enrage.

Congratulations to loot winners: Chalace with [item]Vanquisher’s Mark of Sanctification[/item], Amethyst with [item]Protector’s Mark of Sanctification[/item] and Codor with [item]Astrylian’s Sutured Cinch[/item].

Unity Path Achieve A Tribute To Insanity! (Faction First)

Posted on | January 15, 2010 | No Comments

This had to be one of the more annoying achievements.

Two months ago, we blew it at 11% of the Anub’arak takedown due to an incredibly vexing oversight by a passive healer (the group died), and since then there’s been week after week of random disconnections of MT’s, a couple of questionable errors or just plain misfortune.

Of course, it had to be this week. From rescuing The Northrend Beasts from a near certain wipe due to massive lag trashing the movement from two Icehowl charges by the skin of our teeth, the rest of the instance was on rails, including the nastiest possible version of the Faction Champions.

Unity Path Storm The Citadel! (Faction First)

Icecrown was released with 3.3, the server was a laggy mess – virtually unplayable for the first two hours of our first sortie – but we got the job done without too much fuss.

The difficulty seems very similar to the non-heroic Colosseum, and we await the real meat of the heroic versions of these fights in a month or three’s time with some optimism. With a bit of luck, the Ulduar lag will have died down then as well, as it’s putting a serious crimp on us putting Yogg+0 on farm.

Unity Path Achieve Realm First! Death’s Demise

And with the defeat of Yogg+0 came the Realm First! Death’s Demise titles, the second time we’ve taken the honour on Earthen Ring – the first of course being for the first kill of Algalon.

A fitting reward for everyone for the half-year Ulduar campaign, and of course not forgetting those who missed out on the final takedown. There were a lot of blood, sweat and tears due to the technical complexity of the fight over many nights.

Unity Path Achieve Alone In The Darkness! (Realm First)

To say the previous weeks were scrappy on this fight would have been a gross understatement. The fine edge of doing Yogg+1 with less gear had been lost as we pushed hard into the Heroic Colosseum, and there were all sorts of errors on display in a prime example of deja-vu.

However, a fairly brutal raid the Sunday before set the tone for the week, and inexorable progress was made throughout the week. A series of near misses peppered the target until it all came together and the final kill was on rails, with only two deaths.

And that was it. Ulduar lay utterly defeated. We’ve seen all the raiding content since 2005, and we can confidently say that this was one of Blizzard’s finest ever instances. The balance of the hard mode encounters were perfectly tuned to the gear progression, and the end-game defeats of Algalon and Yogg+0 were worthy of the Realm First titles.

Unity Path Achieve A Tribute To Mad Skill! (Realm First)

Posted on | November 18, 2009 | No Comments

After narrowly missing A Tribute To Skill the previous week, we more than made up for that minor oversight by taking A Tribute To Mad Skill with 46 attempts remaining for the week.

In fact, we were perilously close to taking the big one – 50/50 and A Tribute To Insanity, however we fumbled the ball at 11% on the way down with a silly error. However, there’s always next time!

Unity Path Defeat Anub’arak Heroic! (Realm First)

Posted on | November 7, 2009 | 4 Comments

It’s taken a month, but Anub’arak finally hit the deck. A number of the old hands were surprised by the sheer viciousness of the encounter design – this is a legitimate test. P1/P2 were sorted out to satisfaction after two weeks but P3, well P3 is something else entirely. There are some fights, and fight mechanics you simply remember – this is unequivocally one, and penetrating cold will give the healers nightmares for weeks to come.

We were feeling relatively confident of a kill after 7% and 11% wipes on Wednesday, however after five and a half hours, 25 pulls and running an hour overtime on the raid night, P3 continued to be on the wrong side of the knife edge – until pull 26 and the boss hit the deck with only 3 people left standing after a final 15 seconds of utter mayhem. The infamous 1% Unity Path wipe was looking likely, but thankfully avoided.

Congratulations to the many loot winners of the night. Batory and Lavode who bag the first Tier 9 258 on the realm, both with [item]Regalia of the Grand Vanquisher[/item], Minbrah with [item]Signet of the Traitor King[/item], Kwis with [item]Legguards of the Lurking Threat[/item], Sehana with [item]Footpads of the Icy Floe[/item], and Amethyst with [item]Gloves of Bitter Reprisal[/item].

Regalia of the grand vanquisher

Unity Path Defeat The Twin Val’kyr Heroic! (Realm First)

Posted on | October 4, 2009 | No Comments

After two total wipe nights, we started to make progress on this fight – making steady progress until we hit the obligatory 1% wipe. A couple later, the fight was in the bag – and is definitely the first of the “proper” fights in the instance.

Congratulations to the loot winners: Irisiri with [item]Twin Spike[/item], Lavode with [item]Lupine Longstaff [/item] and Sehana with [item]Cord of Pale Thorns[/item].

Unity Path Become Celestial Defenders!

The defeat of Algalon (below), was only one part of the story. As Blizzard have stated repeatedly, they regard the defeat of Algalon as a particular milestone in the history of a Realm and reward that achievement with a unique title to those involved on the kill, and broadcast the event to everyone logged in, on either faction, at the time.

Such was our reward for the Realm First, together with the honour of handing in the first 25-man [item]Reply-Code Alpha[/item], to quite a crowd who had assembled in Dalaran. Like the Drakes, this was a fitting reward for the team after such a long campaign.
